Reports of reverberations in Lee County from earthquake off Cuba's coast

There have you been some reports from Lee County residents that they felt reverberations in their homes from a 6.1 magnitude earthquake that was reported off the coast of Cuba earlier this afternoon. There were no immediate reports of any damage in the county from the earthquake. There were no calls for service on Fort Myers Beach, according to Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District Chief Scott Wirth. Lee County spokesperson Betsy Clayton said the county's facilities team "conducted visual inspections, and no damage is reported to county buildings. There were no impacts to county operations."

Fort Myers Beach Council finalizes approval for Charter changes to go on ballot

The Town of Fort Myers Beach Council voted on Monday to approve a second reading of proposed changes to the town's Charter on Monday, which will give voters in November the choice on whether they want to extend the terms of office for appointed councilmembers and create a salary compensation committee appointed by council which would have the duty of determining recommendations for salary adjustments every four years, along with three other proposed changes.
