Lee County commissioners approve repairs for Bowditch Point Regional Park
The Lee County Board of County Commissioners has awarded the contract to repair Bowditch Point Regional Park on Fort Myers Beach.
The board awarded a contract to Vantage Construction Services for $3.9 million to repair and restore the 17-acre county park to full operation and to improve accessibility, safety and functionality for residents and visitors.
The park incurred heavy damage from Hurricane Ian in 2022. The picnic area, showers, restrooms and shelters have all been un-accessible ever since.
The project includes repairs to park buildings, boardwalks, parking areas, sidewalks, picnic areas, beach access points, trails, shelters and other park amenities, as well as replacement of the 10-slip boat dock.
The contract includes landscaping improvements, and the removal of invasive, hazardous, overgrown, or storm-damaged vegetation.
The $3.9 million contract with Vantage Construction Services LLC will be funded through a Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) Legislative Appropriations Program, the general fund and Tourist Development Taxes on short-term lodgings.
Vantage Construction Services LLC was the lowest of five bidders on the project.
Construction could begin as early as August or September and is expected to take approximately 10 to 11 months, Lee County spokesperson Betsy Clayton said.
