Firefighters conducting controlled burns on Pearl Street

Firefighters with the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District are conducting controlled burns on a building slated for demolition on Pearl Street. The controlled burns will last to noon today and will resume on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon and on Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Scott Wirth said the fire department reached out to the property owners upon learning the building would be demolished The controlled burns will give the department's firefighters valuable training.
