The Town of Fort Myers Beach Charter Review Commission is debating whether to create a "blue ribbon panel" to determine the salaries for town councilmembers. The commission, which has been working on making recommendations to the town council to update the town's charter, is leaning towards making the panel a requirement in the town charter. The Town of Fort Myers Beach Council will ultimately vote on whether to adopt all of the commission's recommendations, before the charter update goes in front of voters for a referendum later this year. Estero Island Historic Society President Elle Bunting will be giving a presentation this Saturday at the Estero Island Historic Society cottage on an old Fort Myers Beach mystery. Bill and Patti Kamerer were well known and well liked adventurers who settled on Fort Myers Beach with a dream of sailing around the Bahamas. In April 1980, they took off in their 41-foot sloop, Kalia III, to realize their dream. Bill and Patti reached the Exumas chain in the Bahamas, and were never again seen alive.
