Firefighter injured battling blaze on Fort Myers Beach

Fort Myers Beach firefighters were able to contain and put out a blaze at a Fort Myers Beach house on Pearl Street Monday afternoon. The cause of the blaze was still being investigated Monday evening. The fire started at about 3:30 p.m., according to the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District. Estero Boulevard was closed off in the area around Pearl Street and the DiamondHead Beach Resort after the fire broke out at the beachfront home. None of the occupants of the home were injured, Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Scott Wirth said. One firefighter suffered a minor injury. Sheriff's Office rules beach death to be suicide

Following an investigation and a Lee County Medical Examiner’s Report, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office found that the death of a person found laying on the beach last week, was a suicide. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of the death around the 2000 block of Estero Boulevard after somebody walking the beach after 7 a.m. last week Sunday saw the body of the deceased adult female laying in the sand and grew concern for their wellbeing. “There is no threat to the public,” Lee County Sheriff’s Office Commander Anita Iriarte said.
