Moss Marina to host children’s fishing tournament
Ostego Bay Foundation Marine Science Center's annual Fourth of July competition one week early this year
For years, the Ostego Bay Foundation Marine Science Center’s annual Fourth of July children’s fishing tournament was held on Fourth of July weekend at the former Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Cafe.
That changed after the impact of Hurricane Ian, and the event is now held at Moss Marina, and one week early. The annual children’s fishing tournament will be held on Saturday, June 27 on Fort Myers Beach. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the event will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
The tournament is open to all children between the ages of 3 and 15 and there is no cost to enter.
“The Ostego Bay Foundation has been hosting this wonderful Kids Fishing Tournament event since 1992,” Ostego Bay Foundation founder and children’s fishing tournament organizer Joanne Semmer said. “This is only possible with the help and support of our wonderful community partners. Everything is free for the children. Last year we hosted 79 children and expect over 100 this year.”
Participants must bring their own fishing pole. Bait will be provided. There will be trophies awarded as well as a free hot dog lunch.
Moss Marina is located at 450 Harbor Court on Fort Myers Beach.
