Update your resume, polish it and look at recommendations for having a dynamic and successful resume. Pre-register for the discussion.
Social networking presentation looks at a host of factors and services that come under the umbrella of social networking. It’s a time to get more familiar with facebook, blogging, tweeting, web 2.0 and how to more effectively use it. Even if you’re just getting starting, having ideas as to which avenues you might want to explore offers possibilities.
Dog Day this week on Thursday is an added opportunity. The dog handler had a death in the family last week and we rescheduled this literacy time.
Book Discussion
The group meets to look at the many facets of Tom Rachman’s “Imperfectionists.” In reading the book, I found myself writing down a variety of quotes that cry for more reflection and discussion. At that rate, I can imagine the discussion of the group is going to be active. This is also a perfect time to explore the ins and outs of such a group as the gathering is smaller during the summer months.
Upcoming
A presentation on Friday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. will look at sharing your own real-life stories through digital media over the web. Video and audio editing programs will be demonstrated along with a probing into what makes a great story. This fall and early winter the library will be doing a lot with digital stories. More details of this latter will be shared later this summer. But for now, consider getting more familiar with what can be done with digital media today.
Magazines
Many readers have discovered that there is almost always some treasure to be discovered in one of the many magazines and journals published today. In spite of some magazines ceasing publication, others arrive on the scene.
In our Library Living Room, we have many magazines available for reading. The Living Room is intended to be a quiet, relaxing place to enable digesting newspapers and magazines. When we moved into the expansion, we needed to have an arrangement that was tighter than hoped for. You may also be aware that development of the collection and getting completely settled into the library will continue for many months. In that light, the Living Room will have a more open look by September and placement of magazines will be such that are easily available. Shelving is currently under construction, and we will fine tune selections.
If your resources allow, consider sponsoring a magazine. There is a list of magazines on the bulletin board stand near the second floor elevator entrance. Such a gift will be enjoyed many times over.
Bookstore
The Friends bookstore has been blessed with regular donations in recent weeks. This is perfect time to linger and find a treasure or two to savor. Prices are so minimal that one can take a bag home and then pass on a title or two to others.
Volunteers
If you’re a person who has a flexible mind and attitude and are open to doing a variety of tasks that need to be done, I’d welcome chatting with you. There is a volunteer opening for a general handy person. Tasks do not require technical electrical or mechanical knowledge but do need a heart and mind that opens to responding to what needs to be done whether that is watering specific shrubs, vacuuming an area that needs extra cleaning out of the regular maintenance timeframe, or putting together a wall shelf unit. The needs change as does the list of tasks need. What is helpful is knowing that this handyperson is available for a set day for a set number of weeks. The volunteer position can be one for a few months.
Parking
The parking spaces are for library use only. Please do not use the spaces because you want to go to the beach or see the sunset or whatever. Gates are closed when the library is closed and, increasingly, events scheduled at the library need the spaces for users and patrons. Usage of the library continues to be much higher than previously and it is a reasonable expectation that those who use the library have ready and convenient access. More people are coming to the library via bike too, which we are excited about, and will be looking to add another bike rack this summer.
Hours
A recorder at 765-8162 gives the hours we are open if you call in when we are closed. Open hours are Monday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5, and Saturday 9 to 4. We look forward to seeing you.
