Lee County Sheriff’s Office lauded for safety record

To the editor:
Traffic safety remains a hot topic issue in every community as evidenced by constant updates from television, radio and print media outlets. I speak frequently in public forums and traffic questions from the audience are always abundant. In addition to safety among the constituents we serve, I also stress safety and careful driving by our brave Deputies.
Earlier this week, while gathered with Florida’s Sheriffs, I proudly accepted the Excellence in Risk Management and Loss Control Award, on behalf of our agency. This award signifies a return on the investment in our membership’s driving and workplace safety record, and my continued commitment to safety initiatives for our citizens and employees alike. Our agency was one (1) of three (3) among the 67 Florida Sheriff’s Offices to achieve this recognition.
The men and women of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office are to be commended for their individual contributions, which resulted in this prestigious award. Also receiving this award was Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan to my immediate right and Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Ashley on my immediate left. Also in the photo with us is Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger and at the podium is retired Wakulla County Sheriff David Harvey. Eslinger is Chairman of the Board and Harvey is the Executive Director for the Florida Sheriff’s Risk Management Fund.
