The Town of Fort Myers Beach will begin hosting Church of Ascension services at Bay Oaks every Sunday beginning this week on Nov. 1.

The Catholic church, which suffered heavy damage from Hurricane Ian, has been closed ever since.

Earlier this month, a mass led by Bishop Emilio E. Biosca Agüero took place on the church property under a tent. The mass was well attended and included other regional clergy.

The bishop is expected to return this Sunday, to lead services again at the town’s gymnasium.

Longtime Church of the Ascension parishioner Ray Murphy said his brother Bobby, the former pastor at the church, will be leading services again.
