Fort Myers Beach Lions Club to award scholarships, announces Shrimp Festival dates

The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club announced they will be providing 15 scholarships of $1,000 each to local students through funds raised from this year’s Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival. The scholarships will be awarded July 30 at St Raphael’s Episcopal Church to students pursuing higher education at the secondary school, college, university, or vocational program of their choice.

The club also announced that next year’s Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival will take place March 13-14. The organization, in their announcement encouraged “residents, visitors, sponsors and volunteers to mark their calendars and join in another year of celebrating the history, culture, and spirit of Fort Myers Beach.”

The Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival dates back to the 1950’s and has honored the rich maritime heritage of shrimping, while creating opportunities to give back.

“The Shrimp Festival represents everything that makes Fort Myers Beach special — community, tradition, resilience, and generosity,” said Alex King of the King Family Foundation, the festival’s title sponsor this year. “We are honored to support an event that not only celebrates our island’s history but also creates a meaningful impact for local families, students, and nonprofit organizations.”

The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club and Fort Myers Beach Lions Foundation “extend their sincere gratitude to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, donated, and participated in this year’s festivities,” the organization stated in a press release.

Proceeds from the festival directly support the Lions Club’s charitable mission. Since last year, the Fort Myers Beach Lions Foundation provided more than $61,000 in donations and support to local and regional nonprofit organizations serving causes including vision care, diabetes awareness, hearing services, youth programs, autism support, environmental stewardship, community assistance, and disaster relief.
