Town of Fort Myers Beach Finance Director Joe Onzick is set to retire this Friday, just as town staff is getting into its budget preparations for the next fiscal year. Onzick had resigned last year under former Town of Fort Myers beach Manager Andy Hyatt, and at that time cited work he believed the town needed assistance with in terms of contracts, oversight of FEMA assistance requests and financial oversight of projects. Onzick later returned to the town under Town of Fort Myers Beach Manager Will McKannay. McKannay said today that Carolyn Luomala will serve as interim Finance Director.

McKannay said he didn’t expect Onzick’s departure to impact budget preparations. “I am deeply grateful for Joe’s contributions to the Town of Fort Myers Beach, particularly during a period of significant financial challenge,” McKannay said. “His commitment to helping this community rebuild, with both strength and integrity speaks volumes about who he is. We wish him all the best in this next chapter.”

Onzick is the second high-profile retirement announced by the town in the last two months. Town of Fort Myers Beach Emergency Services Director Tom Yozzo retired May 1.
