Former Fort Myers Beach Mayor Anita Cereceda has filed to run for Town of Fort Myers Beach Council. The town’s first mayor, Cereceda last served as mayor in 2020 and is currently the chair of the Fort Myers Beach Local Planning Agency.

Cereceda was term-limited twice on the Council. The town’s charter limits councilmembers to two consecutive terms, though they can serve more than two terms as long as they are not consecutive.

Cereceda is one of five candidates seeking three seats on Town Council.

Councilmembers Rebecca Link and John McLean are both running to keep their seats in November’s election. Protect FMB President Tom Brady and Local Planning Agency member Edward Schoonover are also seeking seats.

Brady outpolled Councilmember John King in November’s recall election though King kept his seat after a judge invalidated the recall petitions.

King has not announced whether he will run. The filing deadline is June 12.
