The new Fort Myers Beach Pier will extend to 1,000 feet, which is 70% longer and 50% wider than the pier that stood before Hurricane Ian.

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners approved a $1.4 million consulting contract today with Hanover Construction Services LLC to provide oversight of the Fort Myers Beach Pier construction project. The county is still awaiting approval of permits from the Army Corps of Engineers before work can begin. The commissioners approved an $11.7 million contract with RJ Gorman Contracting LLC in April to rebuild the pier and extend it to 1,000 feet, which is 70% longer and 50% wider than the pier that stood before Hurricane Ian.

The longer pier was pushed for by former Town of Fort Myers Beach Councilmember Karen Woodson, with the support of the Town of Fort Myers Beach Council. The expanded size of the pier extended the timeline of the project.
