Fort Myers Beach issues warning letters over short-term rental registration compliance

2 min read

The Town of Fort Myers Beach Community Development Department has issued warning letters to property owners who may not be in compliance with the Town’s Short-Term Vacation Rental Registration Ordinance.

The letters, mailed May 5, notify property owners that Town staff were unable to verify registration compliance as required under Section 10-198 of the Town of Fort Myers Beach Code of Ordinances. The Town is encouraging voluntary compliance and providing property owners with an opportunity to complete the registration process before additional enforcement measures are considered.

Property owners operating short-term vacation rentals are required to register their properties with the Town. Registration can be completed online at fmbgov.com/STR.

The Town will conduct a follow-up review of records beginning June 5. Property owners who remain unregistered after that date are encouraged to contact the Town immediately to resolve the matter and avoid potential enforcement action authorized under Section 10-199 of the Town Code.

Under the ordinance, enforcement actions may apply to property owners, operators, rental agents, guests, or other persons using a structure where a violation has occurred.

Property owners with questions or who need assistance with registration are encouraged to contact the Town by email at STR@fmbgov.com.
