Lee County Department of Transportation has started repairs on Estero Boulevard from Estrellita Drive to Crescent Street. The repairs will include the replacement of pervious paver drainage facilities that residents hope may improve conditions after rain events.

The project also includes repairs of damaged asphalt, curb and gutter, sidewalk, pavement, pedestrian handrail, school flashers, pedestrian signals, as well as the removal and replacement of the pervious paver drainage facilities. The contractor will also replace ADA ramps and detectible warning surfaces.

Crews are beginning work at the south end of the project due to seasonal congestion to the north. Where possible, the contractor is limiting work zones to ensure pedestrian connectivity along Estero Boulevard. Lee County encourages motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists to slow down and use caution as crews work close to the travel lanes.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in the autumn of 2027. The project cost is approximately $9 million. The contractor is Wright Construction Group.

The project, officially called the Estero Boulevard Hurricane Repairs Project – is a Lee County project and is independent of any Town of Fort Myers Beach work that may be occurring in the same area.

Town residents have complained about flooding on local roads since Hurricane Ian after even relatively small amounts of precipitation. One of the causes is believed to be inadequate draining on town roads, beginning on Estero Boulevard. There has also been concern expressed that the drainage installed on Estero Boulevard has not been even with the road, leading to failures in the drainage system.
