Fort Myers Beach Emergency Services Director to retire
Fort Myers Beach Emergency Services Director Tom Yozzo will retire from the town, effective May 1.
Yozzo, who had also previously held the title of operations and compliance manager for the town, held various responsibilities for the town during his tenure including helping to oversee the town’s rangers, traffic and parking enforcement, as well as the handling of permitting and code enforcement issues.
“With both gratitude and reflection, I announce my retirement from public service with the Town of Fort Myers Beach,” Yozzo said in a statement.
“It has been a true honor to serve this remarkable community in my role overseeing public safety operations. This decision was not made lightly, but comes at a time when I am looking forward to dedicating more time to my growing family–especially my grandchildren–and staying connected with loved ones who are spread across the country.”
Before moving to Florida, Yozzo had also worked for the Town of Newburgh Police Department in upstate New York.
Yozzi said he has spent more than 38 years in public service. “I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles, each one shaping my commitment to community, service, and leadership. I am deeply appreciative of the relationships built along the way, particularly with our federal, state, and local partners. Working alongside such dedicated professionals has been both fulfilling and inspiring,” he said.
Yozzo thanked the town staff “who work every day to serve this community with professionalism and care. It has been a privilege to be part of this team.”
Yozzo said “this community is supported by some of the finest public safety and emergency response organizations I have encountered.”
Fort Myers Beach Public Information Officer Abigail Eberhart, in a statement on behalf of the town, said Yozzo has been “an invaluable asset to the organization, and his contributions have had a lasting impact on both staff and the community.”
Eberhart said Yozzo “will be deeply missed.” Eberhart said Yozzo was “a source of positivity and morale for those who work alongside him each day. We are sincerely grateful for his service and wish him a well-deserved period of rest and enjoyment in retirement.”
