Sheriff’s Office accuses shooter of delaying call to 911
A Lee County Sheriff’s Office report on the manslaughter arrest of Carlos Gonzalez for the fatal shooting of a person he said was his friend inside his Fort Myers Beach home early Sunday morning, cited the shooter for delaying his call to 911, which they say could have prevented the victim’s life from being saved.
According to the booking report, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting on Madison Court at about 12:19 a.m. while receiving a 911 call from Gonzalez.
Upon arrival, deputies detained Gonzalez. He told deputies the handgun which was used in the shooting could be located on the kitchen counter. Deputies recovered the handgun on the kitchen counter next to the deceased individual he allegedly shot.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the man who Gonzalez allegedly shot, citing Marsy’s Law. The state law, passed in 2018, affords certain privacy protections for the victim’s family. The Lee County Sheriff’s office said other details in the report were redacted due to the shooting being part of an active investigation.

Carlos Gonzalez is facing a second-degree manslaughter charge in the fatal shooting of a man inside his home.
In a redacted passage of the report, Gonzalez is accused of delaying the response of emergency personnel for “not immediately calling 911.” The delay “hindered their ability to render aid” to the victim. Deputies and EMS responders rendered life-saving measures on the deceased, which were not successful. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Deputies said that Gonzalez also did not appear to have rendered any aid to the shooting victim.
According to the report, the crime scene did not appear as if a physical altercation took place between the two men. There were two bottles of wine on the counter with two glasses. Two empty bottles of wine were also in the trash can.
Deputies observed that Gonzalez had “bloodshot and watery eyes” and a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.”
A spokesperson for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office declined to answer questions regarding further specifics of the case, citing the active investigation.
Gonzalez appeared in Lee County Court on Monday, where he was remanded to Lee County Jail pending his next court appearance on Feb. 9.
