Lee County expects to receive approximately $11 million from FEMA to rebuild the Fort Myers Beach Pier. Since Lee County commissioners approved building the pier back larger, there will be a shortfall of approximately $6 million the county needs to come up with either through Lee County Tourist Development Tax funds or through a new request to use funds from the BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill

Lee County has released renderings of the Fort Myers Beach Pier on its website.
The renderings are from Stantic, the firm hired by the county to design the new pier.
The county received permits from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for construction. The county still needs permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the construction of the pier.
Construction on the new pier is expected to begin next year as part of a $17.1 million. The new, 1,000 feet pier will add 415 feet of length to the pier compared to its original size. The pier will also be 12 feet wide, four wider than the original size.
The project is expected to be completed in 2027, approximately five years after Hurricane Ian destroyed the pier. The county moved up the timeline for its expected completion date earlier this year.
The project to replace restrooms at Lynn Hall Memorial Park is not expected to be completed by the county until 2028.
