Help check the water quality on Fort Myers Beach
Volunteers are needed for a water quality study in which samples will be taken this Sunday.
The Mound House will be distributing collection bottles this Sunday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. to residents throughout the town to take samples from various locations on the island as part of a multi-year study of the town’s water quality.
The joint project between FGCU, Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce. Water Foundation ROSE grant program, and Mound House is in need of volunteers to check sites along Estero Bay and on the beachfront of the Gulf.
Register ahead of time online at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4DABAB22A6FBC34-55780486-whats#/. Once registered, pick up collection bottles and instructions at the Mound House at 7 p.m.
The collection bottles should be used to collect water two feet below depth and labeled with the name of the person doing the sampling, along with the time and location. The collection bottles should then be returned back to the Mound House outside the kayak shed before 8:30 p.m. The samples must go into a cooler.
