The Girls of Motown will perform covers of 1960's girl group hits Thursday, Jan. 13 at Salty Sam's Marina

For those fans of the girl groups of the 1960’s, the cover group The Girls of Motown should be music to your ears this Thursday night at Salty Sam’s Marina on Fort Myers Beach.

The Naples-based trio are expected to bring familiar hits from the plentiful girl groups of the period in a performance promoted by the Fort Myers Beach Friends of the Arts.

The show is the second leg of the organization’s “Rockin’ the Bay’ winter concert series at Salty Sam’s Marina on Main Street. The first show was in November featuring Nightbird, a tribute to Stevie Nicks.

The Girls of Motown focus on songs from the popular R&B and soul groups from Motown such as The Supremes, The Marvelettes, as well as Martha and the Vandellas, or what Dick Clark once called the “universal” sound.

Their sets also feature many other popular non-Motown female groups from the 1960’s like The Ronettes (“Be My Baby”), The Crystals (“Then He Kissed me”). Fontella Bass (“Rescue Me”), Dixie Cups (“Going to the Chapel”) and Little Eva’s “Locomotion.” They don’t stick to just female-group songs either.

Friends of the Arts Treasurer Keran Farrell said the show will take place technically across from Salty Sam’s Marina in the overflow parking lot. Each show in the series is important to the group for helping to support future shows, visual arts programs and culinary arts programs the organization puts on. The group also gives outs scholarships with funds raised from their programming.

Those attending The Girls of Motown show this week should bring chairs. No coolers or outside beverages will be permitted.

The cost for seats in the front row are $40, $35 for the second row and $25 for general admission.

The gate opens at 5 p.m. and the show kicks off at 7 p.m.

The girls will be performing on the heels of their sold-out show at the Norris Center in Naples this past week.
