U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offering one-day boating safety class this weekend
On Saturday, June 15, the USCG Auxiliary is offering a one-day boating safety class for $45 a person. The class will be held at the Pine Ridge Community Center at 15660 Pine Ridge Road, Fort Myers. The class is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advanced registration is required. You can register by calling 239-690-6780 or online at aux91fmb.org/safeboating.
This novice boating class will give recreational boaters the knowledge needed to obtain their FWC safety certification. This certification is required for anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, who operates a boat with a horsepower of 10 or more. The certification card must be in the boater’s possession whenever they are on the water, as well as a photo ID.
The presenters of the safety class are trained professionals of the USCG Auxiliary and relate the course materials to the Southwest Florida area.
“People are very busy today, and this one class can fit easily into most everyone’s calendar,” said Nick Kaveski, the Flotilla Commander of Flotilla 91. “Unlike online classes, this program offers student interaction, shared perspectives, collaboration and local area knowledge.”
