Margaret Schmidt, Bernadette Hamera, Ginny Testa,(back row) Lois Eliasson and MaryAnn Babcock (in front) attended the meeting.

Keith Laakkonen, the Environmental Science Coordinator for the Town of Fort Myers Beach, made a presentation to members of the Estero Island Garden Club at their meeting on March 21.

Laakkonen discussed changes in geographical features of the island from the 1950s to the present, beach re-nourishment and protection of turtles and birds that nest on our beach. He also answered questions from individuals who had concerns about the ecology of the island.

On April 4, the Garden Club will have its annual luncheon at Nervous Nellie’s Crazy Waterfront Eatery. New officers will be installed at that time. Friends and spouses of Garden Club members are invited to attend the luncheon.

Contact Sharon Cotter at smcotter@sbcglobal.net if you would like more information. The cost is $20, and reservations must be made by April 1.
