Chapel hosts youth orchestra concert
Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts Orchestra will present a concert at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30. This event will be the first in this season’s Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church’s Concert Series. Musical works to be performed include Edvard Grieg, Gustav Holst, and Alexander Glazunov. A free will offering will be taken. No tickets are required.
The orchestra has two groups: The Chamber Orchestra and the Camerata. Both groups are string orchestras which encompass four instruments: the violin, viola, violincello, and the double bass. When these groups combine their talents they have 22 musicians.
Katrina Rozmus is the new director of the orchestra. She is a graduate of Cypress Lakes High School and earned the position of Concert Master of the Orchestra while she was there. Rozmus continued her education and earned degrees from Florida State University College of Music (Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance) and from Carnegie Mellon University College of the Arts (Master’s Degree in Violin Performance). Since acquiring her Master’s Degree, she has spent most of the past six years traveling, primarily in Mexico, with two orchestras and performing in the region. Last year, as a violist, she took part in forming two chamber groups Duo Dolce and the Subito Quartet which include members who are graduates of the Moscow Conservatories and Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY). The groups toured to various venues around the country.?While in high school, Ms. Rozmus never imagined that she would be “on the other side” and someday becoming a director of the orchestra. And now she is just that! Although acknowledging that it takes time to master instrumental techniques and include those into a sense of ensemble, Ms. Rozmus is excited by the potential of the orchestra and sees a bright future ahead.
Come join us for a concert filled with peace, creativity, vivacity, and youthful joy!
