Beach school to benefit from golf event
Beach Elementary School has been a beneficiary of many generous community businesses in the past, and this weekend is no different.
The eighth annual Beach Elementary School PTO Golf Tournament will be teeing up for a good cause on Saturday, May 8, at the Fort Myers Beach Golf Course.
“This is our biggest fundrasier of the year,” said Beach school PTO member Tracey Gore. “This event allows the island’s residents and businesses to contribute to the school in a fun way so that we don’t have to send our kids out selling candy, wrapping paper, etc… We are blessed with a supportive community who truly care about our kids. The money raised from this event goes towards field trips, classroom supplies, assemblies, the end-of-the-year carnival, our holiday program and more.”
A pre-golf cocktail party/silent auction at Bayfront Bistro on Thursday, May 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. will also benefit the Beach children. Gore says the field for the tournament is full, but hole sponsors and donations for raffles and the silent auction are still being accepted.
“We are always accepting hole sponsors & donations… even after the tournament,” said Gore. “The pre-golf cocktail party will honor all the sponsors of this year’s golf tournament. Bayfront Bistro is donating 10 percent of drink sales to the school as well as providing snacks. Everyone is invited to this event.”
For more information on the party/auction, call Sharon Faircloth at 707-8261. For hole sponsorship, donations or a last-minute effort to sneak into the tournament, contact Gore at 849-3603.
On the course Saturday, a complimentary breakfast with drinks and snacks will be provided at sign-in. The day will include raffles and golf prizes for ball drop, in the circle, closest to the pin, longest drive (men and women) and first, second and third place teams. A luncheon/award ceremony and live entertainment will follow the action.
There will be a $10,000 prize, sponsored by Chris Heidrick of Heidrick & Company Insurance and Risk Management, for hole-in-one shots on certain holes and either a pair of domestic airline tickets, flat screen television or a set of Calloway Golf Clubs.
“The annual Beach Elementary PTO Golf Tournament is a fantastic opportunity for our students, staff, PTO, families, businesses and entire community to work together to benefit our kids,” said Beach Elementary Principal Larry Wood. “Our PTO works very hard staging the event, but the members also have a lot of fun with it. The tournament, and this year’s new Silent Auction Party at Bayfront Bistro, gives everyone on the Beach a chance to be a part of our school. The support from the community has been better than ever, in spite of the difficult economic times. All of the money that is raised is used by the PTO to help provide materials, activities and quality educational experiences for our children.”
Last year, the PTO event raised $13,000 for the Beach school.
“We have a great little Island school with fabulous teachers and staff,” said Gore. “It is our teachers who educate our kids so well that we have maintained A+ status. I am humbled that I was able to go to Beach School as a child and that both my kids have been able to enjoy such a unique educational expereince. There’s nothing like the Beach School and there’s nothing more important than our children.”
PTO President Cathy Trent, the 4th grade teacher at Beach Elementary as well as a leading volunteer for Kiwanis-Kids, has been a major role player in the golf tournament, according to Gore.
“We have a lot of parent volunteers, but all the school teachers and staff members have contributed their “off” time to this event in one way or another whether they are making signs, working the event or getting sponsors and donations. Ms. Trent does so much for the school and our kids because she cares so much. She is also helping Ms. Gayle with the school’s first musical.”
The Beach School PTO is a 501c3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.
