BORC Bash deemed success

Close to 800 people visited the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus on Fort Myers Beach Saturday, according to Town Recreation Manager Nicole Olsen. The BORC Bash was a celebration and a get-to-know event put on by the Town to display their newly acquired recreation center, ball fields and community pool.
The no admission party featured pool access, food and drink vendors and free children’s activities such as sporting events, magic tricks, face painting, bounce houses and slime making. There was also volunteer musical entertainment and business vendors including Dr. Bennett’s mobile massage table, the Mound House’s Calusa Cart, FMB fire truck balloons, and tents from the Community Emergency Response Team, Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society.
“People were really happy and excited,” said Olsen. “They think the campus looks beautiful, and everybody has really enjoyed the pool.”
Olsen admitted the Town Pool closing for the whole month of September may have been a discomfort for some.
“We know it was an inconvenience to have it closed,” she said. “But, we had to conduct repairs for re-structure. Those repairs are all finished.”
Olsen said the pool will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for water aerobics from 9 to 10 a.m., and lap swimming between 10 a.m. and noon. The recreational center will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
“Teen hours with varying activities will be offered Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.,” said Olsen. “We have open volleyball on Tuesdays and open basketball on Thursdays both from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Zumba and aerobics classes will be starting soon and sign-ups are going on for flag football. The Senior calendar is full of activities as well.”
The annual Halloween event will again be offered.
“We are also continuing the tradition of the Bay Oaks “Family Fright Night” on Friday, Oct. 30,” said Olsen. “We are looking for sponsors and donors for running games, providing candy and prizes and for setting up a ‘scare station’ in the haunted walk.”
