Local Fort Myers Beach restaurants will be taking part in “Wings on the Beach,” a competition and passport event being promoted by the group What’s Up FMB.

A dozen restaurants are expected to participate, putting up their wings against each other to determine a “Golden Wing champion,” What’s Up FMB announced ahead of the event.

Among the restaurants who have publicly announced they are participating are Detroit Dawgs, Junkanoo Below Deck, License to Chill Bar & Grill, Lah De Dah Restaurant, Mr. Waves Island Bar. Nervous Nellie’s, Petey’s Upper Deck, Snug Harbor Waterfront Restaurant, Smokin’ Oyster Brewery, Wahoo Willie’s, and The Whale.

The wing crawl will begin at 11 a.m. at Junkanoo Below Deck and will end at Wahoo Willie’s with a party between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

A champion will be announced at the Wahoo Willie’s party at 5:45 p.m. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

Participants can pick up a passport to taste each restaurant’s signature three-wing special, and then head to Wahoo Willie’s to cast a vote on the best wings.

Smokin’ Oyster Brewery on Old San Carlos Boulevard announced they will be offering house-smoked wings marinated in Chef Miguel’s special sauce, with a Chipotle dipping sauce.

Smokin Oyster Brewery, Snug Harbor Waterfront Restaurant, and Wahoo Willie’s also announced three-wing specials to go along the event on Saturday. Smokin’ Oyster Brewery will offer three wings with a koozie for $5, Snug Harbor Waterfront Restaurant will offer three wings for $4, and Wahoo Willie’s will have a special of three wings and a domestic beer for $6.

What’s Up FMB announced that among the flavors for the wings being offered at the event from other restaurants will include garlic teriyaki, mango habanero, kung pao, and sriracha sunset.

The cost to register for a passport is $25. The deadline to enter is Friday at noon. To pick up a passport for the event, visit WhatsUpFMB.com. Participants do not need to go to each restaurant.
