When season is over, it’s time for the locals to get out and enjoy the island’s food and entertainment scene. It can be hard to get around during season, but once traffic lightens – even with construction – our islanders have lots of delicious or fun choices to make.
From now through September, the Observer will feature a restaurant, bar or business on Fort Myers Beach or San Carlos Island that our readers might like to get out and enjoy.
This week: Beach Theater
This week’s forecast? A 100 percent change of being either hot or stormy. That’s every week in a Florida summer. If it’s too hot or too wet to get outside or go to the beach, it’s the perfect time to go see a movie.
The Beach Theater has been an island go-to for more than 10 years, and claims to be the first-run food theater in the country. Not only can you catch the latest blockbuster hits, but you can have a meal or a snack while you watch. The theater has its own kitchen, and cooks up Americana favorites like corn dogs and mozzarella sticks, as well as chicken tacos and sandwiches, with ice cream for dessert. Popcorn, a theater staple, is also for sale. Servers take your order from your seat and run food and drinks to you before and during the movie. The theater serves not only beer and wine, but also liquor, so guests can get a cocktail while they watch, too.
The theater is open seven days a week from 2 p.m.until 9 p.m. Tickets run from an $8.50 matinee to $11.50 for adults, with 3D tickets running up to $14.50. There are four theaters and three movies screening at any given time, with something for every age group. The matinee show is at 2:50 p.m.
“It’s cheap, you can eat and drink here,” said Dion Gamble, the assistant general manager. “It’s two birds with one stone.”
