Richard remodels Old San Carlos property
A former retail store is getting a makeover on Old San Carlos Boulevard.
Property owner John Richard is taking his time, but is constructing a porch and updating the roof of the building at the corner of Second Street and Old San Carlos.
“It won’t be done any time soon, we’re just chipping away at it,” he said.
The porch will extend the footprint of the building out closer to the street, but Richard said that’s about all he’s changing for now.
“I’m trying to keep the Fort Myers Beach look going,” he said. “It’s nice to have ‘funky’ Fort Myers Beach.”
When he’s finished the additions, Richard thinks it will become a retail store or maybe an ice cream store, but nothing’s been finalized and he’s not in a hurry.
“Eventually it might get ripped out for a bigger building, but the way things move on Fort Myers Beach is a little slow and we’re okay with that,” he said.
