Motorcycle crash on Estero Boulevard today leaves one rider critical condition
At roughly 11:30 a.m. Saturday, a motorcycle and vehicle collided on the south side of Estero Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach and resulted in the helmetless driver and passenger of the Harley Davidson bike being listed in critical condition, according to officials from Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occured in front of the 7-11 across the street from Santini Marina Plaza resulting in a two-hour re-routing through the plaza parking lot.
Both vehicles were traveling north on Estero when the motorcycle decided to pass the slower-moving Jeep. As the driver of the motorcycle attempted to pass, the driver of the Jeep turned left and into the path of the bike. Both occupants were ejected and suffered critical injuries. They were both transported to Lee Memorial Hospital by Lee County EMS (driver by ground, passenger by Med Flight).
- Jeep driver Skyler Miller, age 15 and from Columbia, Mo., and passenger Debra Duras, age 54 from Coal City, Ill., were both wearing seat belts and suffered no injuries. Miller was charged with careless driving at the scene.
- Motorcycle driver Robert Assenzio, age 60, and passenger Linda Assenzio, age 61, are both from Cape Coral.
