Patrick McKeown (at left with wife Carolyn at a fundraiser for The Mound House), has been awarded with a Fort Myers Beach Citizens of Distinction Award for his work on a book about the history of the Mound House.

Local author Patrick McKeown has been awarded a Fort Myers Beach Citizens of Distinction Award for his authorship of “Crown Jewel of Fort Myers Beach, The Mound House.”

The Town of Fort Myers Beach Council voted to approve the nomination from Friends of the Mound House President Ellen Vaughan in May.

Vaughan cited McKeown’s “professionalism, commitment and skill” to writing the book. The Mound House funded the publication of the book, which gives a history of the property and its owners.

“The book is the product of long labor and demonstrates commitment that will serve the Mound House and the town in good stead for years to come,” Vaughan stated in her nomination of McKeown for the Arts and Cultural Recognition Award.

Councilmember Jim Atterholt said McKeown’s book has been a “tremendous blessing to historians who want to memorialize all the events which led up to the Mound House.”

Atterholt commended McKeown for his effort and public service.

“It’s been a great fundraising tool for the Mound House,” Atterholt said. “Mr. McKeown, as I understand it, donated his time, a lot of time to this effort. He has highlighted so many wonderful people on the island who have been part of this effort.”
