I love Lucy Lucy was found by a Dumpster, in a cage, with a rope and five very young nursing puppies. They were all adopted and now it is Lucy’s time. She is a three year old Florida Curr/mix. She weighs about 28 pounds. Mom and babies were cared by Kim, Dave and their son in a home in Fort Myers. Lucy was a good mom and took care of the puppies very well. She loves people and will be a great friend for a couple or single person with a fenced in yard. Note from her foster Mom: “The sweetest smartest young dog I have known. She greets us after work with a dance on her hind legs and then a wiggle around the room. She begs us to come play by grabbing your hand or nudging you to get up. She loves her toys and to play fetch. She won’t return the toy but will play “Catch me if you can”. She is loyal and loving and protective. Lucy does not like the swimming pool, but loves to run and play in the surf on the Gulf. She does love to lay in the sun. She would love a fenced yard. She loves to run, and boy, can she run. The speed is amazing. Walks around the neighborhood are a fun part of her day. She tolerates the family cat and is curious when meeting other dogs her size but is not upset (that is a new development in the last week or so). It seems that Lucy does not like dogs that are smaller than her. She loves to chase squirrels but would not know what to do with it if she caught one. When we are gone for a few hours she is respectful of the house and furniture. She is house broken and has not pottied inside even when we were later than normal to get home. She knows how to stay, come and sit and is learning to shake, too. Lucy sleeps in our son’s room and, when she is ready for bed, goes straight there and curls up on her blanket. Lucy is a funny girl and will make the perfect addition to a good home.” If you would like to meet her and adopt Lucy please let us know. You have the land, we have your boy So happy we were able to save Derrick Mason last week. We were able to find a foster at the last minute who is actually a past resident of Fort Myers Beach. Gabrielle moved away from the city and is now enjoying peace and quiet in around nature and Derrick Mason, of course. This is a very special breed and not common here in Florida. They are not for everyone and certainly not if you live in a condo. He needs a home and some land. He is a treeing walker coonhound. He was a stray and went unclaimed. He was stressed in the kennel and needed to get out. His weight is 42 pounds. Good health and a great heart!! He is fine with other dogs, just likes to sniff around and around. What a nose! He is a first in our rescue. just needs a hand. Very handsome dog!! If you would like to meet him and adopt him please call 239-272-6633. PHOTO PROVIDED

Help a family My daughter Caprice volunteers at a Food Bank every Saturday and last week Dara, who runs the program, approached me and wanted to find out if we could help a family who had nowhere to go and had an eviction notice. This would be temporary for a couple of months. They do want to take their pets back which is so great. There are two dogs and one kitten. We understand you may not be able to take all of them together but just in case you can take one or the two dogs together that would be fantastic. Please call 239-281-0739 for more information. Mimi is a 1 1/2 years old, Max is 4 years old and the kitten is 4 months old. Now over the years we were able to find help and today this is the time to do it again. PHOTO PROVIDED
