Book Discussion
The Discussion Group met this week to share ideas regarding Edward Kelsey Moore’s The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat. Most recommended not only reading this title but the next title that may be available from Moore. This was his debut novel, focusing on three women who have been together during high school days and now again later in life-Clarice, Barbara Jean and Odette. The characters both of the women and their husbands and family are believable. To what extent they are loveable varied among group members.
Next month’s discussion will center on All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.
New Titles
Last week we added 75 new print titles to the collection.
Movie
We will resume our series focusing on new, award-winning independent and foreign films. The first is scheduled for September 9. Because of license requirements and to devote staff time to activities in demand, please pre-register a minimum of 1 day before showing.

Magazines continue to be popular and in many ways seem to be a resource for industry research, trends and vitality. As magazine media continues to expand across platforms, the trends within journals and magazines demonstrate that this media continues to be the most trusted, inspiriting and influential media, satisfying readers when, where and how they choose.
Our print magazines are in the Family Room where the atmosphere is quiet and conducive to enjoying an entertainment issue or researching a particular topic. Observe that the entire collection is divided into categories which should help make it easy to locate your favorite magazine or find articles on subjects of interest. Thank you for keeping the Living Room quiet for others too.
History
Hampton Sides’ comprehensive history found in Blood and Thunder (US History West Sides) tells the story of our nation’s drive to absorb the West and expand America from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Sides covers many events including the Mexican-American war, the clash of Native-American and Anglo cultures, the life of the Navajos leader Narbona and the coming of the Civil War to New Mexico. Included also through newspapers and trashy pulp fiction is Kit Carson, a larger than life American frontiersman.
Readers who like a lot of detail will enjoy Sides sparing no details and being even-handed in his telling of the tale. Many will find the Navaho not to be so lovable and the Americans not so honorable.
Uncommon Friends

New Exhibit
A new exhibit has been added on the second floor of the library. The exhibit features a variety of creations made from seashells. All the of the works are created by local residents. It is intriguing to see the transformation that sea shells bring to ordinary objects.

Library Hours
When we are closed, the hours of operation are included in a recording when you call in. Stop by Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; on Wednesday between 9 and 7; and on Saturday between 9 and 1. We look forward to seeing you.
