Event Details
The Writing Life is an opportunity to meet with local resident and author Henry “Bill” Hoffman as he shares many insights about his writing experience and the way he blends local Florida events and history into his novels.
Hank Hendry will put a personal spin on Florida’s role in the Civil War. His family brings a lot of behind-the-scene observations to this conflict.
Mindfulness Practice finds Angel Duncan offering methods and techniques for achieving mindfulness by calming the mind and the body.
A visual program highlights what is included and sometimes hidden in the Christmas painting of the masters. Dr. Jaffin relies upon his art history and museum guide experience as he explores these elements.
Penny Jarrett shares what she learned in the Nouabale Ndoki National Park relating to the family groups and behavior of gorillas.
A talk and visual presentation by Dr. Charles O’Connor offers insights on locating and recognizing fossils. This is a Saturday presentation enabling those working and busy during the week to participate.
Book Discussion will be looking at “The Light Between oceans” by M. L. Stedman.
The reenactment by Stan Malecki of cowboy Tobias MacIvey is sure to be both entertaining and educational.

The Ins and Outs of Belly Dancing includes tales and adventures from retired belly dance entertainer Jeanette Swenson on Jan. 22, 10:30 a.m.
The Friends
The Friends of the Library have their annual meeting on Saturday, Jan 25, 1:30 p.m. Keynote speaker A. J. Bassett will talk about growing up on the Beach, developments over the years and highlights she recalls about the library.

Boating Safety
San Carlos Bay Sail & Power Squadron sponsors a class in the Community Room on Jan 23, 1:30 to 4:00 p.m., to enable competence in boat handling, particularly in taking the helm to relieve the skipper or to make a safe return if needs arises. $45 registration fee includes handbook. Drawers
Those who have wanted to have a chance to draw, or receive some pointers and guidance while so involved are encouraged to attend the basic drawing class on Jan 23 at 10:30 a.m. Pre-register.
Returning Materials?
If you are coming into the library and have materials to return, please put them in the Materials Return in the lobby, just to the left of the front door as you enter. Put items in one at a time. If you’re returning materials and the library is closed, come in the entrance on Bay Road and drive straight ahead to the Materials Return on the outside of the building. You can put items in the Return from your car window or from your bike. Same procedure as when returning inside.
Landscaping
We need one person who can assist some hours each month in addressing specific areas in the landscaping. We can set up a schedule that fits well into yours. See me for details.
Gift
There are always more titles we’d like to add to the collection that our operating budget allows. At times there are particular titles that would add so much to our collection. We know that more people are coming to recognize the treasures in the collection as check-outs have been increasing in recent months. Consider giving a gift to the library of $25 or more so that we can add more titles to the collection. You can indicate a particular area if desired.
Dollhouse
Special thanks to those who have contributed dollars or furniture for the children’s dollhouse on the first floor. The dollhouse now has most rooms with furniture and people and it adds a lot. We will add select pieces as the months and years go forward just as we do we with our Dolls of the World collection and Seashells collections.
Library Hours
When we are closed, the hours of operation are included in a recording when you call in. Stop by on Monday & Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.: on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9 and 5; and on Saturday between 9 and 1. We look forward to seeing you.
