January Schedule
There are many events scheduled in the Community Room throughout the month. Pick up a schedule at the Staff Assistance desk or online.
There are so many treasures and so many talented presenters that it is uplifting when these gems are appreciated and used. Last week I joined along with the Musical Holiday Sing Along and what an uplift that was-not only did participants have priceless Christmas stories but Julie Wenger on keyboard and song inspiration by Marilyn Farley made the time one one could feel glad about having attended. Also joined in the Night Before Christmas-in Song & Monology by Alice Glawe. Alice absolutely delighted us with her talent and all of us will see Night Before Christmas in a new light. Events such as these truly make one more ready to face the regular changes a part of life.
Holiday Display
Enjoy the special display in the Gallery on the third floor. Special thanks to the Estero island Garden Club for providing the poinsettias in this display and also those on the desks on the first and second floors. This is an annual project of the Club and we appreciate their investment and kindness in this regard. You can participate in the Garden Club meeting activities again on Feb. 3 when they meet in the Community Room, from 9 to 11 a.m. Appreciate also the tree decorated by the students of the Elementary School on the second floor.
Thank You
A note of gratitude to residents and users who have shared a Christmas card or holiday treats. Staff appreciate your kindness and thoughtfulness.
Keeping the Library Clean
We use a green approach to pest control seeking to partner with the environment so that pesticides do not harm library users, volunteers, staff and the environment. We encourage all to exercise these commonsense practices:
(1) Please drink only water in an enclosed bottle on the first and second floors of the library. No eating anywhere on these floors. If you wish or need to eat or drink, please use the Library Commons on the third floor.
(2) We ask homeless and those passing through for a few days not to use the restrooms for bathing or shaving or personal care. The library is not a hotel or motel and for homeless, Chapel By The Sea’s program offers opportunities for cleaning up and good hygiene.
(3) Recognize that the humidity and climate in Florida does invite an occasional ant or spider and a periodic sign of such need not cause alarm. Both cleaning and pest control occurs on a regular basis so being realistic about public usage is a big plus. I find it discouraging when cleaners have the bathrooms in perfect order after a careful tidying up and disinfecting and then someone early in the day does the discourtesy of leaving a messy sink, dirty mirror or toilet paper scattered on the floor or counter. We recognize that there is a mental issue now and then but more courtesy would leave the restroom in a condition as found and as inviting for the next person to use.
Volunteer
We need a volunteer to assist in helping out in the Friend’s Bookstore for a four-hour shift each week. If you can help, even if just a few months, please see the Bookstore Manager, Jim or talk with me if he’s unavailable.
