Veterans
We express thanks to our veterans in November for their service. On Friday, Nov. 8, at 1:30 p.m., Alice Mack will present a range of taps and music program with trumpet. Not only is it deeply motivational and relaxing but it fosters the patriotic spirit so in sync with Veterans remembrance.
Be a Part of the Community Story
Everyone has a story of resilience to tell. We want to hear yours! The library’s reading program with a storytelling twist,”Human Resilience: A Community Story,” continues until Nov. 25 and gives participants the chance to share their reactions to books as well as their own experiences of resilience with the community. How does it work? First, choose a book to read from the program’s reading list-the list is available on the library’s web site and at displays in the library. These books have been selected because their characters exhibit resilience in tough times. Then share a few words in a short video or audio interview (your choice) at the library and reflect on your own resilience in tough circumstances. Your story will be weaved together with other stories into a community movie presentation at the end of the program. Visit the library today to check out one of the books from the reading list to get started. All participants will be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle Fire HD. Kids ages 5-12 are encouraged to participate in the kid’s version of the program, “Kids of Courage.”
Macomber
Robert Macomber, author of the Honor Series of naval historical , will be the keynote speaker at the monthly gathering of the Estero Island Historic Society on Monday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. He will address ‘The escape of the Confederate Government through southwest Florida.’ Though this is Veterans Day and the Library is closed for the day, the Library Commons is open for this event with doors and parking open at 6:30 p.m.
Quilters
Yes, fellow quilters gather on a regular basis in the Community Room, with the next meet on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Plant & Seed Exchange/Book Sale
We are excited about the possibilities available in the Plant & Seed Exchange/Book Sale set for Saturday, Nov. 16, in the parking garage area of the library. The Exchange offers the option to bring a plant you’d like to exchange for another or trade seeds left from a planting. This exchange is coordinated by the Estero Island Garden Club.
In conjunction with this Exchange, the Friends of the Library will have a book sale, with tables of used books at minimal prices. Expect to find a range of titles and genres and since the cost is so minimal, take away a bag or two of books.
Thanks to The Friends
The Friends have given the library a gift of $6,270 which is adding ten new magazine subscriptions, added signage that staff believes will assist library users such as an extra sign on bathrooms that can be viewed from a distance, upgrades and additions to health, art, travel and painting collections.
Consider joining with The Friends in their plans and activities. Applications are available on each floor of the library or via email request to beachfriends@comcast.net
