Volunteers

We welcome volunteers to assist in shelving materials. Please call or stop by and speak with Angie regarding this need. Even being able to help out for a few months will be most welcome.

I need a handyperson to complete one outside task. If you’re handy with a six-foot ladder and could install a trellis please talk with me. This is a one-project task only so I think working one day or two partial days would do the job.

Flags

In our American history, four flags have been used for the majority of our history. These four flags are on display in the library accompanied by a placard that notes the years they were part of our history as well as background details of the words that have been embroidered in each of the flags. One flag is on display over the stairs to the first floor, a second flag on the first floor and two flags on the second floor.

Smoking

If you notice a smoker doing so on library grounds, please ask them to move out to the sidewalk and walk in the direction of traffic and smoke there as in accord with Lee County policy.

Community Room

We try to make this room available for non-profit, library or other use as much as possible. Please try to reserve the room in advance so there is time to plan and an opportunity for you to use the area. A copy of the reservation form and the Guidelines can be emailed if desired. You can also check ahead of time to see if a particular date and time are available.

Returning Materials

The sorters where materials are placed into when returning materials are working well. We find that now and then a sorter is not working as it should, often because of user behavior. When putting items in the sorter, whether in the inside or outside sorter, please put one item at a time in. This enables the check-in to go smoothly. We find that some people returning items are putting them in too fast-this means the system accepts them but they get put in a “needs attention” bin which requires staff to check them. If you put in an item and wait with the next title until the second blue light is lit (which reads item recognized), then you can proceed with putting in the next title.

Schedule

The Library Board at its regular monthly meeting this month looked at the pattern of library usage during the month of May. Staff have observed that there is heavy usage in the morning hours and less usage in the afternoon, and at times very little late on Saturday or later in the evening. We will be moving to summer hours starting July 1.

Our goal is to serve the community as best possible and to do so in an efficient manner and in a fashion that utilizes staff time and library resources as efficiently as feasible. We will continue to monitor usage patterns and if an adjustment seems warranted, the Board will review further.

Regular hours as during season will still be in effect during the month of June. Starting July 1, the library will close at 6pm on Monday and Wednesday, and close at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

E-books

Our debut e-book collection begins this week. You can check out two books at a time and may reserve up to 2 titles. Please check out only what you are certain you will read. Not only is this a beginning collection but e-books are costly.

A downable station in Audio Avenue will be available for assistance.

Library Hours

When we are closed, the hours of operation are included in a recording when you call in. Stop by on Monday and Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.; on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9 and 5; and on Saturday between 9 and 4. We look forward to seeing you.
