Learning more about local plants and the relationship between these plants and us is a plus. Join Dorothy Rodwell, an ecological interpreter, as she explores this connection on March 20.
The History of Fort Myers Beach is always a welcome topic and one that enables many to appreciate the ins and outs of our local history and locals.Beach resident and historian, AJ Bassett, will share many glimpses on March 21.
Writers, including aspiring writers, are encouraged to check out the Group meeting on March 26.
Grand Opening
Celebration of the completed construction project is set for Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23. The library is open on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
An evening Open House on the March 22 will feature “Taste of the Library” from 3 to 5 p.m. offering samples of cafe’ fare. There is also a tour scheduled to start in the lobby at 3:30 p.m. You can also enjoy piano music in the Library Commons on the third floor between 3 and 5 p.m.
Saturday festivities: 1. Start with an Opening Ceremony at 10 a.m.A short Welcome and Introduction is followed by a Dedication with closing of singing of “My County tis of Thee.” Flag Hoisting with bugle and Honor Guard and we close with singing of “America the Beautiful.” 2. Please sign the Guest book in the lobby sometime during the day. 3. Tours will leave the lobby every 90 minutes, staring at 11:30 a.m. 4. Circulating throughout the grounds will be Tobias MacIvey (from A Land Remembered, the story of three generations of a pioneer family in Florida), Bone Mizell (early Florida bullwhip and cowboy) and Marjory Stoneman Douglas (tireless advocate for solving conservation issues facing south Florida). Meeting the three in their native environment can offer many insightful conversations. 5. Want to adopt a pet? Check with Find A Home, Give A Home in the parking lot on Saturday. 6. On the first floor Kid’s Place join Chip Withrow, family folk singer, for family child time from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Temporary tattoos will be available in the multi-purpose area at 2:30 p.m. Clifford the Big Red Dog will also be mulling around between 2:30 and 4.00 p.m. There will also be a puzzle to be assembled near Toddler’s area between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. 7. On the second floor, quilters will be sharing and working on their projects in the Living Room. Near the Large Print area there is a table with puzzle to be assembled during the day. Also on this floor, check out the display of Ukrainian Eggs, Carved Creations and Cup & Saucers. 8. On the third floor, enjoy samples of cafe’ fare. 9. Activities in the Community Room include: How to Bring Pictures to Life, Community Room A, 10:30 a.m. Use Your Digital Camera to Take Great Pictures, Community Rm A, 1:30 p.m. Pirate Tunes and Artifacts, Community Room B, 1:30 p.m. 10. Music in the Commons will feature: Keith Atkins, Cool Runnings Band highlighting Reggae music from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p m. Band, Apocalypso featuring classic Caribbean/Pop music-Happy Jeff (Stage Moniker) and Mike Barry (Congas, Latin Percussion) 2 to 4 p.m. 11.Specials in the Friends of the Library Bookstore will be available throughout the two days.

Each article must be grounded in some kind of authority-citing studies, where applicable, and interviewing experts in the field-but it also must give readers practical advice.
Library Development Fund
Gifts to the Library are welcome. Donations to the Library Development Fund are used to purchase resources that our operating budget doesn’t cover. Of particular interest are items for the Children’s Courtyard, for Kid’s Place, for The Classics Collection, and for Audio Avenue expansion.

When we are closed, the hours of operation are included in a recording when you call in. Stop by on Monday & Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.; on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; and on Saturday between 9 and 4. We look forward to seeing you.
