James and Sarah Kaserman will offer a fascinating account of American railroads and, to fit perfectly with the season, will also offer a blend of these railroads and the spirit of Christmas.

Ice Cream Social

Join us this Saturday for the Ice Cream Social from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ice cream and lemonade will be served in the Library Commons (top floor) and tours will be available highlighting design features and environmental aspects, which are integral parts of the construction.

Construction

Those returning for the season are encouraged to visit the Annex (former Friends Bookstore) in Seagrape Plaza if checking out fiction, mystery, DVDs and non-fiction. Stop on the second floor of the Expansion for all Large Print titles, for magazines and newspapers, music CDs, audio books and Internet workstations. If you’re looking for the Friend’s Bookstore, Wi-Fi access, or participating in Community Room events and activities, go to the top floor of the Expansion.

We are making good progress with the renovation of the original facility. The timeline for being completed by Christmas stays active. The longest factor affecting us is waiting for some window framing to arrive. It is a realty today that some raw materials take a long time to locate, and then fabrication takes place on a less than lighting speed. The windows need to be installed so that the interior can be finished and after the windows are ready for placement, the rest won’t take long.

Smoking

The library facility and grounds are no smoking and no tobacco use. There are no smoking urns so please refrain from bringing any smoking items onto the property. In addition, if smoking is necessary, please walk to the sidewalk and move in the direction of traffic.

Gates

The tower lobby entrance and gates close when the library closes. Please encourage those who need beach parking to use the public parking designated for that purpose, and not take library spaces needed for library users.

Maintenance

If you have an hour or two and can assist each week in doing maintenance tasks, please see me. This enables us to keep the building clean and often enables those little tasks that remain undone to be completed.

Returning Materials

Until construction is 100 percent done, materials can also be returned to the Annex. If after hours, there is a drop box near the Annex to receive materials.

Once construction is finished (ah, that very thought bring smiles and smiles) any materials to be returned from your vehicle can be returned to the exterior materials return (the added structure near the back corner of the library on Bay Road), or if brought into the library then returned to the interior materials return in the tower lobby.

Local Culinary

The Friends have published a cookbook filled with local culinary treasures. As holiday season welcomes unique gifts, consider this. It’s available in the Friend’s Bookstore or at the Circ desk on the Second Floor or Annex.

Library Development

We worked on plans for the current construction project for 10 years. We’ll have the challenge to follow-through on that vision in the next few years. The Board has established the Library Development Fund to continue the good work of the Library Construction Fund during the planning and construction of the current facility. Your donations and gifts to the Development Fund will enable the library to enhance the basic building infrastructure with world-class, technology-smart, multipurpose spaces and resources.

Donations and gifts to the Library Development Fund enhance the existing program activities of the Beach Library, they do not substitute for line items in the existing operating budget.

Library Hours

When we are closed, the hours of operation are included in a recording when you call in.Stop by on Monday to Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.; on Friday between 9 and 5;, and on Saturday between 9 and 2. We look forward to seeing you.
