Kayaking finds Betsy Clayton sharing tips on how to enjoy the best of kayaking. She has been paddling the waterways of southwest Florida for the past 15 years.

Writing Fiction invites Flame LaMothe to talk about how she came to write and how she created the characters and book thread of her “Living in Paradise.”
Artist of the Month
Nancy Randall and friends are our ‘Artist of the Month.’ Nancy calls herself a transparent watercolor painter because she enjoys the immediacy of the medium. Many would look at her works and call her a “colorist” as one finds a delicacy of blending colors and each work has colors that invite attention.
Her friends’ works include artists we have come to know and appreciate. Let the works speak for themselves.
The Library
One of the challenges in today’s public library is its changing usage patterns. Our mandate is to serve the public’s information needs as well as responding to entertainment and leisure purposes.
Some see the library still in yesteryear’s terms, as being a place that is to house only books, but many will describe libraries as supporting democracy by providing materials (print, audio, visual) on all topics from different points of view, offering meeting rooms for forums, classes and presentations, and as the federal and state government encourage more and more online access, as employment centers by providing computer usage, job search materials, and programs on resume writing and interviewing.
Computers
The Internet has become a way that many interact, locate information, or improve their life. Now and then, someone will comment that computers should not be part of a public library. The digital divide remains a reality for some in the community and public libraries have been the place to gradually erase that gap. Nearly one-third of all Americans age 14 or older-roughly 77 million people-used a public library computer or wireless network to access the Internet in 2009, according to “Opportunity for All” , the first, large-scale study of who uses computers and Internet in public libraries. We have users who come in to take a test for a continuing education program, or to complete coursework for a class they are taking.
Library Hours
When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162 or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5, and Saturday 9-1. We look forward to seeing you.
