The Beach Library welcomes back snowbirds and increased usage
Weekly Activities
Preschool Story Hour starts at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
Knitting & Needlecraft meets also on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
After-school session for grades 2 to 6 meets Thursday from 2:30-3 p.m.
Dog Day literacy program on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 4 to 5 p.m.
Jewelry-making class on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
Card-making class on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 10:30 a.m.
Regular Board Meeting, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Activity Details
Attendance and delight in the Knitting and Needlecraft group are growing. Feel free to join in the camaraderie and activities.
Parents seeking to have their elementary children, grades 2 to 6, devoting after school time to a structured activity that fosters a love of reading, can pre-register for the session on Nov. 18. Also, parents seeking to strengthen or open the door to their children looking forward to reading are encouraged to consider the Dog Day. We have seen some miracles already in terms of what is possible in this setting as children seem to respond so openly when there is no peer pressure and natural communication just happens.
Crafters have two options this week: the Jewelry Making class on Nov. 22, and the card-making class on the 23. Both classes enable one to create either a piece of jewelry or a number of custom greeting cards. Pre-registration and materials fee for both classes are needed.
Growing
With the increasing usage of the library, we welcome our snowbirds and those who are discovering the value of the library for the first time. Usage was up 33 percent last week compared to the same week last month. It’s a joy to hear the comments of first-time resident users “Why didn’t I notice you before?” or “Wow, a great selection in mysteries.”
Those who are regulars in reference will notice that some rearranging of tables and shelving is underway in that area. This is to accommodate both a growth in biographies which are moving adjacent to reference and to consolidate some resources so they are better used.
Contractors
Board members are busy in reviewing the Construction Manager @ Risk proposals from contractors and firms. We received 15 proposals, so there is much to digest and assess.
The Friends
Have you joined the Friends of the Library? If so, thanks. If not, please consider. An application is available on the front desk. The Library Friends have been busy the past two Saturdays in sorting books. We are preparing for a giant book sale to be held in conjunction with Ground breaking. What it made it enjoyable was that some of the Friends, in sorting titles, also discovered ones tempting to take home.
We appreciate the efforts of The Friends and hope that additional residents and visitors will become part of this group.

Don’t remember library hours? When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours on 765-8162 or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5; and Saturday 9-1. We look forward to seeing you.
