Those who have little or no experience on the Internet and want to get started or understand better how to proceed can consider pre-registering for the Beginning Internet class on Nov. 30.
Upcoming Activities
Want to try your hand in making a holiday ornament from seashells? Sign up for the Seashells class on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The Sanibel Shell Crafters will offer tips on the various techniques as well as guide your hands-on creation if desired. Pre-register and $3 materials fee.
If you’re among those who want to learn to paint, pre-register for the Having Fun Painting class on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m. Dawn Gibson, Decorative Artists of Southwest Florida, will make the experience non-threatening and freeing. Pre-register as she comes quite a distance to spend this time.
Pointers on creating a holiday floral centerpiece will be featured on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 1:30 p.m. Lorrie Wolf Florist will facilitate. We still recall the festive creations the last time around. Pre-register and $10 materials fee.
Reschedule
The regular Board meeting of the Fort Myers Beach Library Board was rescheduled from Tuesday, Nov. 23 to Tuesday Nov. 30. The Board meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. on the 30th followed by a work session of the Board concentrating on recent Construction Manager @ Risk proposals.
Drama Within
Diane Asseo Griliches loves books and has a great fondness for libraries, “one of the very few institutions on earth,” she says, “where any soul may walk through its doors free and depart enriched.” In her “Library: the drama within” (027 GRI) one can quickly see why she’s moved by the beauty of libraries. The reader/viewer is also able to see that “it is usually the people who make the scene that creates the drama.”
It took her six years to complete this work. Likely you’ll be moved as you browse the pages and photographs, seeing both the importance and the vitality of what goes on inside the libraries. It is a gift I am privileged to notice many times. Last Friday, 21 people were waiting to enter as opened the doors and it was a delight to not only hear the varied ‘good morning’ greetings but also the various activities that people were coming at 9 a.m. to participate in. I actually saw in action what is pictured on pages 75, 87, 89, 93 and 117 just within the first 10 minutes. Ah, what wonder!
Library Hours
Don’t remember library hours? Call for information. When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162, or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, which would be mentioned on the recorder, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9-8, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9-5, and Saturday 9-1. We look forward to seeing you.
