Hearing

Our first budget hearing will be on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m., meeting in the library Conference Room. You are welcome.

We’ve made efforts to keep expenses under control and prepared for construction to respond to the increased services the community desires and wants. Our millage stays the same as last year, which means the revenue coming into the library will be 10.69 percent less than last year.

We are grateful for the gifts left in the Library Construction Fund donation box near the model of the library. These gifts, out of the goodness and/or sacrifice of one’s heart, say a lot and also are a sign of support.

Community Rug

The Knitting and Needlework Group, which meets the first and third Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., has adopted a project to benefit the Library Construction Fund.

Their goal is to have community members gather in the conference room this Wednesday, and continuing in October and beyond until the rug is finished. The rug is an opportunity for artisans to join in this project. Sharing ideas and conversation is invited, and at the same time the final rug will benefit the library.

Disney

“The Mouse That Roared” by Giroux and Pollock (384.806 GIR) proposes that we raise questions about Disney, e.g. What role it plays in shaping public memory and childhood values? How does it contribute to consumerism? The authors include all of Disney (parks, merchandise, media, the corporation) in their discussion.

Edible

Edible landscaping replaces plants that are strictly ornamental with plants that produce food. Consider “Eating & Healing” (615.321 EAT), “The Edible Flower Garden” (635.9 CRE) and “Florida’s Incredible Wild Edibles” (FL 581.6 DEU).

Library Hours

Don’t remember library hours? When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours on 765-8162 or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
