Thank you
We’ve had more contributions to the Library Construction Fund in the past two weeks. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and support in this regard. Every dollar donated to the Fund enables us to keep construction plans moving ahead and assures that our long-term debt period is shortened. It does make a difference.
Donation box remains next to the model of the expanded library.
Budget
We recognize that small businesses and families are tightening their belt to make ends meet. We are doing the same. We’ve been working with the budget and trying wherever possible to reduce our expenditures. Bottom-line, we will have less revenue next year. The Budget Committee recommended and the Board decided to keep our millage the same as last year. This means we are not going with the rollback/roll-forward rate but will have 10.69 percent less revenue coming in. Most taxpayers will see no increase in millage and will see a reduction in their library tax.
We are proud of this effort and recognize it requires us to be constantly vigilant in how we spend and what is spent. To do this in a year when we break ground for library expansion is testament to the value of long range planning and constant awareness of the bottom line.
The library is more important than ever, and public libraries across the United States continue to experience increased usage. A growing segment of the population recognizes the value of sharing these resources. Few expenses have decreased so any way you can assist us in stretching our budget is most appreciated. A donation to the Library Construction Fund is a big help. If you have books, CDs and DVDs that have been enjoyed & now sitting unused, consider donating them to the Beach Library so we can share with others. If your kindness allows, consider sponsoring a magazine-available magazines that need a sponsor and cost anywhere from $11 to $200 are posted on the bulletin board to the left of the front desk or can be obtained via email from beachfriends@comcast.net -a note/reply will indicate available magazines.
