Parking
We have expanded the space available for parking bicycles. There’s also a space for motorcycles and microcar. If you have a bike with a cart or tiny vehicle, please feel free to use this space. These are summer weeks when it’s easy to find a parking space but many times the rest of the year spaces are a premium. Having dedicated parking spaces hopefully encourages more bicycling and makes it easier for users to find a space quickly.
Biography
If you want to read a biography that’s a wonderful reading experience and exposes you to a person and time you might have been unaware of, consider “The Poison King” by Adrienne Mayor (939.33 MAY).
Mayor gives the reader a nuanced view and along the way you’re drawn into the reading because of Mayor’s engaging style. One might think that one cannot make a person from the first century B.C. come alive, but Mayor makes Mithradates’ world interesting. If you like documented footnotes there are plenty to get lost in a thread or two.
Because Mayor has an avid interest in poisons, the reader is also treated to ancient poisons, chemicals, geography and regional flora. At times one has to wonder if the line between history and historical fiction is being crossed. One particular gift is that if you are not a fan of ancient history, you might be tempted to search out another title.
Construction
We continue to move forward with construction plans. You don’t see much happening but there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Currently we are evaluating light fixtures and lighting system. Comparing bulbs, warranties on fixtures, and payback of using compact florescent with dimming, compact fluorescent with screw-in bulb and LED. Each fixture is also evaluated on sustainability, i.e. how efficient will it be in 5, 10 and 20 years?
Thank you
Every dollar added to the Library Construction Fund enables us to reduce our remaining debt on expanding the library.
