Mystery

We’ve noticed a renewed interest in mystery author Dorothy L. Sayers and her Lord Peter Wimsey series. If you enjoy the British “cozy mysteries” you will find a new author to add. If you love Agatha Christie, it’s likely you’ll enjoy Dorothy. Local resident Georgia Shakti-Hill notes that “Dorothy develops a complexity and richness in the relationships between both Peter and the ever resisting love of his life, Harriet Vane; and between our clever mystery-solving Lord Peter and his devoted man servant, Bunter. Dorothy’s intermingling of poetry adds an expressive depth to the characters and situations. I never tire of my fascination as an American reader and the distinctive roles and classes of the aristocracy and the commoner across the pond. Dorothy writes during the period between the Great War and World War II with historical accuracy and emotion.”

Joy of Reading

Words can make us feel part of a distant culture or enable one to become an enthusiastic soccer fan for as long as it takes to read 440 pages. The words that we take into our lives become a part of us. It is this connection that enables reading to be a joyful experience.

Construction

I am feeling that the days are not long enough. Construction details are occupying hours each day as we refine the details. We are still on schedule for groundbreaking so the consultants and architect are busy providing cut-sheets, refining construction document details, and being sure all is in order.

Looking for New Authors?

Fiction readers, look at “Black Hills” by Dan Simmons (SIM). Simmons is a master of describing settings that make you want to reread them. This is a title that is sure to both entertain and educate. You may need to be ready that the narrative jumps around a bit, from the 1870s to the 1930s but as historical fiction you’ll be content.

“Directive 51” by John Barnes (BAR) is for those who love a polemical roller coaster. If you see science fiction and politics as going together, you will get lost in the provocative issues that Barnes is able to articulate.

Library Hours

Don’t remember library hours? Call for information. When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162 or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, which would be mentioned on the recorder, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
