Community is ready

This month we appreciated the participants of the CRAB Leadership Conference, and the many who stopped at the library model and Friend’s of the Library booth at ‘Taste of the Beach.’

With both experiences being highly encouraging, I was left with two impressions afterwards: (1) That many in our community are giving people, who really make an effort to be informed and who make possible the important services that are an integral part of our community by involvement in the committees and organizations that comprise the Beach. (2) That we are ready for the library expansion. There was enthusiasm and widespread support, and among some, an awareness of how much the library is reaching and serving the community. While I frequently share statistics with you, the unmeasurable effects seem so much more important. I was edified by the high school senior who stopped at the library booth at ‘Taste of the Beach’ and shared how important the Beach Library had been in his life during his sophomore year when he wasn’t as organized as he probably should have been, and that we took time to assist in his report preparations and in having needed materials for those reports. We appreciated his taking the time to say something that mattered to him and also encouraged us to keep moving forward.

Construction

You may not notice a lot of activity regarding library expansion but a lot is going on behind the scenes. We are reviewing every aspect of the expansion by fine tuning blueprints of structural issues, plumbing, electrical, heating/cooling, sustainable issues, landscaping and usage concerns.

There are consultants assisting the architects. Some of them do a great job and others are less careful and communicative in terms of what it is we are aiming to have as part of our expansion. To assure that our expansion is 100% in line with plans and dreams, each aspect of the plans is being reviewed, at times clarification sought, and at times insistence that needed areas be reviewed and revised.

Four hours

We are looking for two volunteers who could spend about four hours over a period of one to three days (whatever time schedule works in your schedule) in thinning out an area of landscaping. It involves pulling and pruning. If this seems something you can assist with, please feel free to stop at the library and talk with me.

Library hours

Don’t remember library hours? When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162, or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 to 8, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5, and Saturday 9 to 1. We look forward to seeing you.
