Motivation for Spring

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathingthat’s why we recommend it daily.” This thought from Zig Ziglar points out in part why we notice an increased demand for encouragement, relationship advice, spiritual direction, information on health, and self-help ideas. Check the second floor for the display collection specifically on self-help topics (158).

Consider “2DO Before I Die” (subtitled “The Do-It-Yourself” Guide to the Rest of Your life” by Michael Ogden & Chris Day (158.1 OGD) or “How to Rule the World from Your Couch” by Laura Day (158 DAY) or “Before Your Leap” by Kermit the Frog (158.1 BEF). Each offers an opportunity to laugh along with ideas, inspiration and advice for taking on the real world-warts and all.

Navigating

We spend time each week navigating the ocean of available information that seeks to share the wisdom of the ages and much current knowledge to arrive at those gems worthwhile for sharing and that enable one to get through the most pressing issues of our times.

Number of items checked out from the library increased 8 percent last month and this follows a consistent pattern. We are pleased that the titles discovered are being noticed and appreciated.

An estimated 29 percent of the current US adult population, or 65.7 million people, are unpaid caregivers, according to a 2009 survey by the National Alliance of Caregivers. A recent addition “Trauma Stewardship” (On order and holds can be placed) is a worthwhile guide to help caregivers identify the often hidden or ignored signs and symptoms of trauma in their own lives as a result of serving family and friends in need.

A Journey

“Soulshaping” by Jeff Brown (On order, holds can be placed) is an emotionally raw, no-holds-barred account of life in the trenches along the spiritual path. What makes this work worth spending time with is that he moves from survivalist behaviors and attitudes to living in tune with one’s higher purpose in the midst of events that don’t quite make sense in one’s life. It’s a worthwhile title for spring.

Library Hours

Don’t remember library hours? Call for information. When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162 or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, which would be mentioned on the recorder, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
