Laxness

If you’re looking for a new author and new adventure in reading, look to the works of Halldor Laxness. Most of his works are in reissue as he already was Nobel Laureate in 1955. There’s his “Independent People,” or “Iceland’s Bell.” Consider also “Under the Glacier” or “The Great Weaver from Kashmir” (all to be found in CL LAX).

Laxness is sometimes grim, sometimes funny, and often captivating. If the recent back-room deals and discord in Congress regarding health care has got you down, consider what Laxness said about politics-“It’s just a little dust here and there on the floor of the croft, at times a little distraction. The story unfolds outside and above and all around them and in its enormous weight little concerns them.” Laxness’ works await!

Snowbirds Leaving

We appreciate our winter residents and know many use the library. Please, as you do your leaving details, double-check that your library account is clear and that everything is returned. Also, if you put any titles on hold that you won’t be here for in the coming months, please release that hold. Thanks.

Don’t remember library hours? Call for information. When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162 or on 765-8163.
