Activity Details

There are many activities scheduled in the Conference Room for January. A schedule of events is available at the front desk.

Travels in England, on Jan. 4, finds London native, Anne Sherwood sharing insights into the people and customs of England. This presentation is part of our “Getting to Know Our World” series.

Scrapbooking Crop, also on Jan. 4, provides the opportunity to join other scrapbookers in sharing ideas and making progress on a current project. If you’ve considered doing a Scrapbook, this is also an ideal time to get ideas for starting. Angie Frantz and Carole Vasterling, experienced scrapbookers, will facilitate.

Upcoming Activities

Knitters will work again on projects Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Both experienced and new knitters are invited. Instructor Charlotte Gray is on hand to offer assistance.

Board certified holistic health practitioner, Germain Torquino will offer a range of diagnois and treatments on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m.

Also on Jan. 7, but at 1:30 p.m., Feng Shui certified consultant, Nan Grover is here to share ideas that aid in freeing positive energy for one’s life, particularly as energy is cleared for 2010.

Jan. 8 welcomes Rosemary Jaffin, who presents an overview at what enabled Viktor Frankl to survive an experience none of us would want, and what it is that gives meaning to our lives. Consider reading “A Man’s Search for Meaning” (150.195 FRA) and also Rosemary’s book, “Say ‘yes’ to Life for the Sake of God” (616.891 JAF).

Information & the Library

You’ve probably noticed our recent statistics that library usage is up and the number of titles being checked out is up. That comes as no news for staff as we stay very busy responding to the demand.

In a report from the University of California, San Diego, “How Much Information? 2009 Report on American Consumers,” the total information consumed by U.S. households was approximately 3.6 zettabytes of information in 2008. One zettabyte is 1,000,000,000 trillion bytes, and total bytes consumed last year were the equivalent of the information in thick paperback novels stacked seven feet high over the entire United States, including Alaska.

If a presentation, tutorial or seminar mentions “pre-registration necessary,” please sign up as soon as you can, and definitely don’t expect openings if you wait until the same day of the offering to sign up.

Library Hours

Don’t remember library hours? Call for information. When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162 or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, which would be mentioned on the recorder, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
