Activity Details

Writing Class facilitated by Judene Maxwell meets on Nov. 24. This is a great opportunity to expand one’s repertoire of knowing what to look for in effective writing and reading.

Upcoming Events

Computers-Q & A is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m. This is an opportunity to have your lingering questions addressed pertaining to your own computer or to using computers. Pre-register and include a short note indicating what question you’d like an answer to.

Sand

Thank you for seeing that any sand on your shoes or sandals is removed before entering the library. We have a mat outside the front door and another just inside the entrance to facilitate removal of sand. When sand is dragged into the library, it wears the carpeting more and adds to our cost of cleaning and upkeep. The more users are observant in little ways, the more we have in the budget to expanding resources for all to use.

Urinals

We have waterless urinals in the men’s rest rooms. These no-flush urinals improve rest room hygiene by lessening exposure to airborne bacteria. Microbes, bacteria and viruses thrive in moisture, but they die when dried. Studies show that when water flush urinals are themselves flushed, they in turn create aerosols containing the new-growth bacteria and inject still more microbes into the rest room atmosphere.

The waterless urinal saves water too. While we don’t track the number of rest room users, it’s a bit hard to say how much water is saved but I can tell from the monthly usage total that they contribute in a positive way to conservation. This vast amount of outflow that doesn’t reach the sewer system also means it doesn’t run into our natural waterways and ocean.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, has been an annual tradition since 1863, though not a federal holiday until 1941. Historically it was a religious observance to give thanks to God and most Americans celebrate by gathering at home with family or friends for a holiday feast.

We have many titles to reflect on this Day, whether in information on the origin of the Day or in stories that can be read with children, or even fiction with themes that tie into Thanksgiving. Just go to the library home page and when in the catalog, just type in thanksgiving. You’ll get many titles to consider.

Library Hours

Don’t remember library hours? Call for information. When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162 or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
